Aside from honoring us with a splendid Worlds performance, T1 has also given us some great build inspirations we can run in our own League of Legends endeavors. The build that has caught my eye the most is the unkillable Zeus’ Gragas build showcased in the final Worlds Championship game. Now it’s time to examine the build and see if we can pick up some knowledge for our own games!
Zeus’s Gragas Worlds Build Items
Cosmic Drive
The game has kicked off with the Cosmic Drive as the first purchase. This is a really great first item for gaining extra mobility and setting a solid foundation for AP damage. The mobility of this item is gained from the passive which increases movement speed by 4% after dealing damage to an enemy champion. Utilizing this passive allows Gragas to poke and safely exit trades. In the specific scenario of the game, it was really useful for laning against Jax.
Winter’s Approach
After Zeus had purchased his second item, it was clear what was unfolding. He was building a foundation for a build loaded with HP and magic resist. The approach was extremely successful as he recognized the threat that the opposing enemy (AP Kai’sa) posed. To prepare for Winter’s Approach purchase, Zeus has purchased an early “Tear.” For those who might be unfamiliar, the item essentially collects stacks that are later carried to items such as Winter’s Approach, allowing the items to upgrade faster.
Zhonia’s Hourglass
The third item built was Zhonia’s Hourglass. The item is one of the Gragas’ essentials that should be purchased in most games, especially if you are running a decent amount of AP items. For Zeus’ this item was extremely significant. The utility of Zhonia’s can not be understanded in pro play, as well casted Zhonia can make or break even the highest stake games.
Abyssal Mask
By the time the fourth item was supposed to be build, the game has already concluded in T1 favor, but we can still make fair guesses as to what the fourth item would be. We could see that Zeus had purchased a negatron cloak, this item component can lead to only 5 items, one of which is Wits End (so there is essentially only 4 options).
Anyhow, the most reasonable choice seems to be the Abyssal Mask. The item would serve a great purpose in countering the AP burst damage from Kai’sa, while also giving Gragas the ability to deny 30% of enemy’ magic resist.
Abyssal Mask would have been a truly great item to see in action, but the most we can do is use this item in our own games. It’s a really great item for Gragas, and it can be purchased consistently. Its main value comes from a unique profile that offers both resistances and offensive penetration stats.
Jak’Sho the Protean
Now I have not spoken to Zeus, but if I had, I would be pretty sure he’d tell me that the last item he would build is Jak’Sho the Protean. The item is a perfect combination of both magic resist and armor stats. The utility of this item is apparent in a wide spectrum of games. It will increase our durability due to its passive that gives progressively bigger resistances the longer we are in combat. Therefore, its safe to assume this item would have been found in Zeus’ loadout in the final game, had the game lasted longer.
Boots
The boots that we saw on Zeus are the Ionian Boots of Lucidity. Since Gragas is a champion that likes to play around his cooldowns, it’s obvious that having CD-reducing boots is the greatest choice. These boots will also be a safe pick for non-worlds players such as ourselves.
