Kayn is a very powerful jungle champion with a unique passive that allows him to transform into two modes. The first mode of Kayn is Shadow Assassin, alternatively known as blue Kayn, and the second mode is Rhast, also known as the red Kayn. The build we will be covering will be best used on Rhast, as this version is much stronger currently.
Best Kayn Items
Eclipse & Boots
The first item that’s really great on Kayn is Eclipse. It will give us all the base stats we need, such as early damage, and some ability haste. The item will also grant us a massive shield that is activated when we land multiple consecutive abilities in a short span of time. Eclipse is a great early skirmish item, and it also scales really well into the late game. After finishing Eclipse, we will want to get our early boots, which will be either Plated Steelcaps or Mercury Treads.
Black Cleaver
The second item we must build is Black Cleaver. The item is really great as it will give us massive amounts of HP. The more HP will give us more sustain which will give us more time to make use of Rhaast’s spell healing. Additionally, Black Cleaver has a passive which reduces enemy armor for each time we hit them. This passive is really easy to proc with Kayn, and a lot of times you can apply it to multiple enemies when in combat.
Spear of Shojin
The Spear of Shojin is another Rhaast essential. The benefit of this item is two fold. First, it will reduce our abilities’ cooldown, which will allow us to output more damage in fights. Second, the item will increase our abilities’ damage. Aside from damage and cooldown benefits, Spear of Shojin will also give us a generous amount of HP.
Serylad’s Grudge
As the late game approaches, the enemies will usually start stacking armor and HP. To prevent this from being an issue, the next item we are gonna build is gonna be the Serylda’s Grudge. Equipping this item will give us around 30% armor penetration, which will significantly increase our damage against armor heavy opposition. Additionally, Serylda will make our abilities slow low HP enemies, which will enable us to catch and take them down more easily.
Guardian Angel
The last item I like to build is the Guardian Angel. As you probably know, the item will give us a revive passive that will, well, revive us after dying in a fight. This passive is essential, as it will give us another chance when we need it the most, in the game-deciding late-game fights.
Best Runes for Kayn

- Legend: Haste
- Last Stand
- Magical Footwear
- Cosmic Insight
Conqueror is the best keystone for Kayn. It’s easy to stack, and it will essentially give us free healing and damage. The next rune we will take is Triumph, which is useful to get extra healing after taking down the enemies. The rune following Triumph will be the Legend: Haste, which will provide the much-needed ability haste.
The fourth rune, Last Stand, will help us deal more damage when we are low on HP, and it’s generally the most helpful rune from its tree. Finally, we will take Magical Footwear to save gold we would have spent on boots, and Cosmic Insight for some extra CDR.
In Conclusion
Kayn is a really consistent and strong jungler. The best way to play him is in his Rhaast form. To get the most out of playing Rhaast, you will want to go for a bruiser Conqueror build, paired with items such as Black Cleaver and Eclipse.
