Wukong is one of the most interesting champions and he is distinguished by his cloning ability. The monkey king is primarily played in the top lane, but you might see him flexed in a few other roles from time to time. The champion has always had a relatively stable place in the meta. To make the most out of him, today I am gonna share the most effective build for winning games.
Best Wukong Items
Trinity Force
The best first item we can take on Wukong is the Trinity Force. It will give us a great mix of a bunch of much-needed stats such as ability haste, health, attack damage, and attack speed. It also comes with an essential passive which will empower our auto-attacks after casting abilities. Building TF will mark the first power spike in the game, and will make us much harder to deal with.
Sundered Sky
Sundered Sky is another great item for Wukong. It will double the strength of our basic attacks periodically. Combined with Trinity Force, it will give us a really strong ability to poke enemies in the lane. From this it follows that we should play aggressively, when our cooldowns are up, we can go in and trade, then retreat until our cooldowns are back up. This will enable us to poke down the enemies, and then execute them when they are sufficiently low.
Black Cleaver
Some champions just have items that feel custom-tailored towards them, and such is the case with Wukong. The Black Cleaver is another great milestone in our build, it will make us beefier in terms of HP, and most importantly, it will give us an easily stackable armor penetration passive. The passive will make us melt enemies, and do much more damage than we did previously.
Death’s Dance
Death’s Dance is a super nice item to have in your loadout, especially when you are facing AD opposition. It will give you much more sustain in fights and will reward you for successfully killing an enemy. It stores the damage in a postpaid kind of manner, meaning that you will receive the damage with a slight delay. The great thing is, if you manage to kill an enemy, the damage debt gets released, and you get to walk away without paying.
Sterak’s Gage
The final icing on the cake will be the Sterak’s Gage. The well-known bruiser item that will shield you after dropping below the 30% HP threshold. The item will add another layer of complexity for your enemies, and will make you much harder to deal with.
Boots
The most effective options for boots are either Plated Steelcaps or Mercury’s Treads. Plated Steelcaps are great against basic attack-based champions, and Treads will be great at countering CC, as they give loads of tenacity. Another option we can consider are the Ionian Boots of Lucidity, which will reduce our cooldowns.

Final Thoughts
Wukong is an incredibly interesting and powerful champion. He has a pretty low-skill floor but a high-skill ceiling. The best way to embark on the rewarding journey of starting to play Wukong is by going with the right build. The build that will have the most success is a bruiser damage one paired with defensive boots. It will enable us great sustain, as well as amazing damage for chunking the enemy team.
