Urgot is one of the strongest duelists in League of Legends, he is distinguished by a unique kit that combines both melee and ranged aspects. He has a solid lane phase and scales well in to later stages of the game. To maximize our potential when playing Urgot, we are gonna go over the top build that the greatest Urgots players use to climb the ranked ladder!
Best Urgot Items
The Black Cleaver
The Black Cleaver is the greatest first item that should be taken pretty much always. It gives amazing amounts of ability haste, HP, and most importantly armor penetration. This item works really well on Urgot as he is able to stack its armor penetration passive incredibly fast. Also, the additional stats such as HP make Urgot really hard to beat in lane.
Sterak’s Gage
Another really solid item is Sterak’s Gage. Once built, the enemies will have a real hard time killing you in the lane. The greatest perk of this item is its shield that activates when you drop below 30%. It’s really amazing for catching enemies off guard and sustaining longer in lane.
Jak’Sho The Protean
By the time you start building Jak’Sho, the mid-game will already be approaching. This item will be perfect for mid to late game as it will give you a bunch of magic resist and armor, which will enable you to defend yourself against a whole range of enemy attacks team fights, and skirmishes.
Overlord’s Bloodmail
The item will be the recently added Overlord’s Bloodmail. The item will give us an incredible amount of 500 HP, as well as two really strong passive spells. The first passive Tyranny draws power from our bonus HP and gives us 2% of bonus HP damage. Since we are already beefed up on HP, this offer comes as a no-brainer.
The second passive of this item is Retribution, it will increase your damage up to 10%, depending on your missing health. This is another great perk which can be used to catch enemies off guard, just like Sterak’s Gage.
Thornmail
The ADC-repellent Thornmail, much like the other items on this list, is great for Urgot as well. It will cause enemies to lose HP every time they damage you with basic attacks, and it will also apply the Grievous Wounds effect which will significantly impair their healing.
Boots
The boot options for Urgot boil down to Plated Steelcaps and Mercury’s Treads. Plated Steelcaps will reduce the damage from basic attacks by 10%, while Mercury’s Treads will give you tenacity which will significantly lower CC duration. The choice will be different on a game-to-game basis, and you will have to make a call as to which ones suit a particular game the best.
Runes
- Precision
- Triumph
- Legend: Haste
- Last Stand
- Bone plating
- Overgrowth
Precision is the best keystone rune for Urgot as it increases his damage really well, and it can be activated nearly instantly. Triumph will serve well for healing after fights, while haste is great for ability cooldown reduction. The last stand is useful for dealing greater damage on low HP, while Bone plating and Overgrowth are taken to increase our resistances.
In Conclusion
Urgot is a great champion for 1v1 fights and skirmishes. The best, and quite frankly the only way to play him is bruiser. We will want to start our build with a little bit of damage items (The Black Cleaver and Steraks), and the transition into some more tanky items.
Our boots choice will always be defensive, meaning we will have to choose between Plated Steelcaps and Mercury’s Treads. Rest assured, this build is definitely great, and it will ensure you win more of your games!
