Varus is currently an S-tier ARAM pick, and judging how strong ADCs were on the mode historically, his ranking is probably gonna stay consistently high. The best build for ARAM Varus will be a lethality one, as it will allow to quickly disintegrate our opposition. Stay with us as we cover the highest MMR Lethality Varus build for ARAM.
Varus ARAM Items
The Collector & Ionian Boots
As the first item, you will most definitely want to pick up Collector. The item will buff you up with a sprinkle of lethality, damage as well as some critical strike. Most notably, this item will give you a passive that executes enemies below a certain amount of HP, and gives 25 gold per kill. The item is great for the early phase of an ARAM match since all enemies will be really squishy. We will follow up this purchase with Ionian Boots, which are the best option for giving us cooldown reduction on abilities.
Manamune
Manamune is a stock purchase for lethality Varus, regardless of the mode. With that in mind, we can be confident its a good purchase on ARAM too. The item will be build second, however, you can buy its stacking component the “tear” earlier in the game, as it is not expensive, and its stacks will carry on to the Manamune once the item is built.
Serylda’s Grudge
One of my favorite buys for Varus on ARAM is Serylda’s Grudge. It is a powerful item consisting of all the damage stats lethality, flat damage, and armor penetration. Additionally, this item will give you a considerable slow on enemies below the 50% HP threshold.
Opportunity
The opportunity will give you bonus damage on your next attack, after being out of combat for a while. It is a decent option to extend the amount of lethality in your loadout. The bonus lethality will make your ability hits much deadlier.
Edge of Night
Edge of Night will be our last purchase. It will help protect us in fights, as it offers a shield that can block any ability in the game. It is great for giving you the freedom to play fights more aggressively.
Build Tips
To get the most out of this build, you will definitely not want to play too aggressively. The playstyle you should aim for is one that pokes enemies with a basic attack + spells rotation, followed by a retreat to recoup the cooldowns.
An additional tip would be to always push the minion waves. This will give you a stronger position, as it will force enemies to play in a defensive stance. Having them play this way will enable you to poke them, and they will not be able to do much to return the favor.
Varus ARAM Runes
- Dark Harvest
- Taste of Blood
- Eyeball Collection
- Treasure Hunter
- Presence of Mind
- Coup de Grace
Dark Harvest is the greatest keystone for this build. It’s easy to stack in ARAM, and it will serve to give us the maximum possible damage. Taste of Blood is the only option from its category, and it’s good for helping us heal and sustain.
For the second half of runes we will take Treasure Hunter, a good rune for scaling and achieving item power spikes faster. The presence of Mind will be beneficial for helping us have mana sustain. Coup de Grace is the final rune, and it will enhance our execution damage.
Final Thoughts
Varus is a fantastic ARAM pick, and the best way to play him would be lethality. We should strive to poke enemies as much as possible, without taking much damage in return. To do this most efficiently, we will always try to push waves with our basic attacks, or abilities later in the game.
