Released in 2011, Vayne still has a kit that draws many players to pick her. She is distinguished by her smooth playstyle, and the ability to shred tanks easily. In the current state of things, she often gets outranged and outpicked in the botlane, which has brought her to the 2nd to lowest place in the strength hierarchy.
Despite being especially weak right now, Vayne can still be fun to play. She is relatively flexible as you can pick her up in both bot lane and top lane, and a little bit of skill coupled with a nice build can compensate for her lack of strength.
Best Vayne Items
Blade of The Ruined King
Blade of the Ruined King is essential for Vayne. It plays into her on-hit melting playstyle, by granting a passive that removes a percentage of enemy HP with each auto-attack. It’s also great for sustain as it gives decent amounts of lifesteal and healing.
Guinsoo’s Rageblade
The Rageblade applies magic damage to each basic attack, which is good for dealing mixed damage and countering enemy resistance stats. It’s also really desirable due to its passive that increases attack speed with each consecutive auto attack.
Terminus
Terminus brings a bunch of stats that suit Vayne really nicely. It has a passive in which each attack alternates between two modes, a light one and a dark one. The light attacks give armor and magic resistance, while dark attacks give armor and magic penetration.
Zephyr
After covering our bases with 3 core items, we can add a bit of an optional item to the list. Zephyr is an item that is generally good, however it can be substituted at times. I like to build it because it gives nice amounts of stacking movement on auto-attacks.
It synergizes well with Vayne because it’s easily stackable after activating the ultimate ability. Disappearing out of vision, and then coming back with a few auto attacks will give us plenty of movement speed and make us much stronger and harder to kill in team fights.
Jak’Sho the Protean
Vayne is a pretty squishy champ, and her range is one of the lowest when it comes to ad carries. This means that she has to walk up really close to get in the range to hit enemies, which in turn makes her really vulnerable.
Building the Jak’Sho is pretty great because it gives stacking resists which increases durability, and it also increases the amount of HP by a significant margin. This item is really amazing for late-game Vayne.
Boots
As Vayne, you will want to run Berserker’s Greaves in most situations. In case that enemy has much CC, you can opt for taking Mercury’s Threads, or still take Greaves with a cleanse. Cleanse is really strong against heavy CC champions such as Leona. In the case that the enemy has too many auto-attack-centric champions, you can pick consider taking Plated Steelcaps.
Best Runes for Vayne on-hit Build
- Press the Attack
- Triumph
- Legend: Alacrity
- Coup de Grace
- Conditioning
- Overgrowth
In Conclusion
Vayne has stood the test of time and her kit is still one of the most interesting ones to play. However, the current meta has made her really weak. The bravest and most distinguished ones will still continue to play Vayne, and the best we can do to make her work well is up our skills and build well.
