New England Patriots – Houston Texans: Initial situation
No one really expected the New England Patriots to play a major role in the 2024-25 NFL season, so their current form is not a surprise for anybody. The Houston Texans, on the other hand has turned into a one of the hottest teams in the league with CJ Stroud leading the way.
New England Patriots Stats & Form
We are not used to see the New England Patriots at the bottom of the AFC East but given the start of their season, maybe we should get used to. Jerod Mayo stepped in as a head coach after Bill Belichick retired, and those are big shoes to fill. The Patriots actually started well beating the Cincinnati Bengals 16-10 on the road but that is all we’ve seen from them. Last week’s 15-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins is their fourth straight. The Patriots actually celebrated a go-ahead touchdown with 63 seconds left but it was overturned. Still, the Patriots found themselves at Miami’s 36-yard line with 12 seconds to go and no time-outs but could not connect on the final try.
Houston Texans Stats & Form
CJ Stroud won the Rookie of the Year award last season and the way the Texans quarterback is playing this year, he may be in the MVP conversation at the end of the season. The Texans are on top of the AFC South with a 4-1 record. The only loss came in Week 3 when they visited the Minnesota Vikings. Right now, the Texans are on a two-game winning streak and are coming off a 23-20 win over the Buffalo Bills with a field goal on the last play. Ka′imi Fairbairn’s tiebreaking 59-yard field goal sealed the deal for the Texans. C.J. Stroud threw for 331 yards and a touchdown and was 28-of-38 for the night.

Betting tip and prediction: New England Patriots – Houston Texans (13.10.2024)
The New England Patriots turned a new page in their history book as Bill Belichick left the head coaching job after 23 years leading the team. It will take them a while before they become a contender again, but the path may be set in this game. The No. 3 overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, Drake Maye, is scheduled to make his first career start for the Patriots. He made his pro debut at the end of a 24-3 loss to the New York Jets back in Week 3, completing 4 of 8 passes for 22 yards, and he’s now looking forward to taking on the starting role. Patriots coach Jerod Mayo hopes that Maye’s athleticism is what his team needs at the moment and has no doubt that Maye is the face of the franchise for the years to come. CJ Stroud, last year’s NFL Rookie of the Year, has already reached the level Maye is projected to be at. He led the Texans to the playoffs last season, which was very impressive, and now Houston is on the right path to get back there. However, they have a long list of injured players, as wide receiver Nico Collins was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday due to a hamstring injury. Houston could also be without running back Joe Mixon, who is dealing with an ankle injury and was one of nine Texans to miss practice on Wednesday. Offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, safety Jimmie Ward, and defensive end Derek Barnett were also among those held out. Given that, we are going with the Pats to cover the +8.5-point spread.
