Worlds 2024: T1’s Incredible Comeback in the Final versus BLG

Share

Another Worlds Championship has wrapped up, and witnessing this one live was akin to watching a scripted comeback story. The mental game for T1 was at the highest difficulty as they were faced with many psychological setbacks. They lost the first game to BLG and managed to score a win in the second round.

However, they suffered a horrific loss in the 3rd game, giving BLG the chance to take the biggest trophy with only a single additional victory. Despite all odds, T1 has succeded in making one of the greatest comebacks in esports history, giving us a spectacular performance. Here are some details from key games!

Game 4

The tiebreaker game for BLG has started looking severely unpromising for T1. You could feel the casters and audience being on edge, as it really did seem as if T1 is going home after Game 4. BLG has managed to create a very significant 3 kills early lead. T1 did follow it up with 3 grub takedowns, however, the trade was not looking promising. BLG had a seemingly impenetrable defense consisting of Smolder and Ziggs, which significantly reduced the potency of Grubs.

The big shroud of darkness surrounding T1 was lifted only after Faker had managed to score a solo lane kill. around the 10th-minute mark. It would not be a stretch to assume this huge psychological boost had played a big role in T1’s success.

Not long after the 1v1 incident, a great fight ensued in the drake pit at the 13th minute of the game. Here, Keria showcased his support genius by saving Oner with perfect revive timing. He then proceeded to follow the low HP BLG’s Xun after the fight had concluded, managing to flash on him and get a nice solo kill.

Now after things have finally gone to T1’s favor, we were slapped with another cinematic plot twist. An intense 3rd top lane fight ensued. BLG Bin on Gnar managed to delete two T1 members by pressing them against the wall with his ultimate.

The suspense in the game was rising only to be broken by an insanely aggressive Faker play where he managed to steal the Rakan ultimate and insert himself in the heart of BLG’s composition, managing to completely disrupt and take down almost the entire team. The play has enabled T1 to take Baron, which started painting a grim picture for BLG.

Despite brilliant playmaking by Faker, BLG comp would have allowed them to survive the Baron-fueled sieges, however, Oner has managed to catch enemy Rakan looking to place vision, and from then it was clear as to who will take the fourth game victory.

Game 5

Game 5 was nothing short of spectacular either. It started with the first blood on Faker

However, he wouldn’t keep falling for the same tricks further in the game:

The game has reached a culmination with a brilliant Faker play saving and turning a game-deciding fight.

The rest of the game has showcased the tactical brilliance of Faker.  He has consistently managed to turn fights that were seemingly unwinnable from everyone else’s point of view. The second half of the game was completely dominated by T1. The aggressive gameplay has enabled them to close out the 5th game in a spectacular fashion.

Final Thoughts

The Worlds 2024 championship wrote truly extraordinary lore. T1, which has barely qualified for the finals got faced with one of their greatest challenges ever. To maintain their crown, they had to come back from 1:2 result against BLG. Despite being faced with unfortunate game beginnings in the last and second to last game, they still managed to emerge out victorious.
